Making Space for Creativity
Making Space for Creativity

We recently took a little time out of the working day, disappeared into one of our meeting rooms and swapped screens and spreadsheets for sketchpads and paints.
There was no grand plan and, importantly, no expectation that anyone had to be particularly artistic. The idea was simply to step away from our desks, try something different and spend some time together as a team.
We’ll admit, it felt a little awkward to begin with. When your working day is usually structured around clients, deadlines, numbers and getting things done, being handed a blank piece of paper and told to create something can feel surprisingly unfamiliar. However, that was the point.

Once we stopped worrying about what we were supposed to be doing, the conversation started flowing, people relaxed and there was plenty of laughter along the way.
And, yes, there was even some creativity!

It wasn't a traditional team-building exercise. There were no objectives to achieve or lessons we were expected to take away. In fact, that was probably why it worked.
We’re a busy team and, like most businesses, there is always something else that could be done. Creating space to slow down, talk and enjoy each other’s company has a value of its own.
A strong team isn’t built solely through meetings, processes and working well together on client projects. It’s also built through relationships, shared experiences and having the chance to connect as people. Our creative breakout session gave us a little space for exactly that.
We returned to our desks with no plans for a Wild & Co art exhibition just yet, but feeling relaxed and refreshed.
